Operations Manager, Transportation is responsible for leading and managing day-to-day transportation operations across assigned terminals or regions. This role ensures the safe, efficient, compliant, and on-time delivery of petroleum, lubricants, and chemical products while maintaining the highest standards of customer service and operational performance. Also provides leadership to drivers, dispatchers, and terminal teams, focusing on safety, productivity, and continuous improvement to support Pilot Thomas Logistics’ mission of delivering energy products safely and reliably to customers nationwide.
- Manage daily transportation activities, including dispatch, driver scheduling, routing, and delivery execution.
- Ensure operations run efficiently and safely while meeting customer delivery requirements and service expectations.
- Oversee terminal operations, product loading, and equipment readiness in coordination with maintenance and terminal leadership.
- Monitor KPIs such as on-time delivery, equipment utilization, driver to truck ratios, available capacity, 7-day consistent capacity, and operating costs; identify and implement improvements.

- Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and compliance audits.
- Support driver safety programs, including incident investigations and corrective action plans.
- Ensure adherence to driver qualification, hours-of-service, and substance testing regulations.
- Maintain readiness for internal and external audits through accurate documentation and compliance management.
- Supervise, train, and develop dispatchers, drivers, and operations support staff.
- Set performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and ensure accountability across the team.
- Support driver recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts.
- Foster a positive work culture built on teamwork, respect, safety, and service excellence.
- Act as the primary point of contact for driver communication, problem resolution, and coaching.
- Ensure superior customer service through proactive communication and on-time deliveries.
- Partner with Sales and Customer Service teams to resolve service issues and align operational execution with customer needs.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers in the assigned territory.
- Manage operational budgets, cost control, and P&L performance within the assigned area.
- Track fuel, maintenance, and labor costs to identify savings opportunities.

- Prepare reports on operational performance, safety, and cost metrics for senior leadership.
- Utilize transportation management systems (TMS), GPS, and ELD platforms to monitor performance and compliance.

- Background in petroleum or hazardous materials transportation strongly preferred.
- Proven experience managing DOT-regulated fleets and drivers.

- Proficiency in TMS, ELD, and fleet tracking systems.
