The Manager of Communications and Marketing leads MVEC’s communications, marketing, and community engagement by driving strategic initiatives, overseeing editorial and media relations, supervising the communications team, and fostering strong member and public relationships to enhance visibility, trust, and satisfaction, while measuring impact to ensure continuous improvement and alignment with the cooperative’s mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities.
The Supervisory Team Is Empowered To Successfully Lead MVEC’s Day-to-day Operations. The Supervisory Team Spends Most Time On Operational Tasks, Are Subject Matter Experts For Their Areas And Suggest “what’s” And Develop And Implement “how’s”. Leading By Example, The Supervisory Team’s Focus Is To
- Empower and retain successful Team Members ensuring cooperative objectives are met. They effectively establish priorities, develop processes, and manage resources.
- Help review and maintain accurate cooperative policies and procedures to follow.
- Be responsible to proactively resolve issues and implement programs to further MVEC’s strategy.
- Be responsible to recruit, onboard, train, coach, evaluate performance and provide disciplinary action of direct reports, including decisions related to reward, transfer, suspension, promotion, or any commendation-related action.
- Work cooperatively across departments, communicate effectively and be responsive.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Assess cooperative needs to establish priorities for major initiatives and develop communication and marketing strategies that align with MVEC goals.
- Ensure quality control and consistency across all messaging while promoting cooperative programs, products, and services to maximize member engagement and visibility.
- Oversee design, production, and distribution of internal and external communications content across all channels, ensuring clear, accurate, and timely delivery.
- Collaborate with all departments to address the cooperative’s communication needs.
- Manage public relations, media outreach, crisis communication (including power outages), and reputation management to strengthen trust, enhance credibility, and drive greater member satisfaction.
- Lead outreach initiatives that strengthen ties with members and general public, fostering positive relationships and cooperative visibility.
- Through events, programs, and proactive community involvement, build support and strengthen the cooperative’s role as a trusted energy partner, enhancing its presence within the communities it serves.
- Develops and manages departmental budget, ensuring alignment with cooperative initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business or related field
- 8 years of related work experience
- 4 years managerial or supervisory experience
- Ability to manage complex communications and public relations functions
- Capability to strategically engage target audiences
- Effectively prioritize multiple projects while ensuring accuracy, quality, and attention to detail under minimal supervision
- Proficient in personal computers and current business software, with the ability to adapt to and implement evolving industry technologies
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including proofreading and ensuring quality assurance of all work
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and fosters collaboration across teams, vendors, members and the community
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with proven ability to manage timelines effectively
- Leverage data-driven insights and marketing analytics to evaluate campaign performance, optimize strategies, and report key metrics to stakeholders
- Experience with electric cooperatives or utilities
- Certified Cooperative Communicator (CCC) designation
Schedule/Location:
On-site at our office located in Jordan, MN.
Pay And Benefits
Starting Wage: $109,447 - $120,392/annually
