Detailed Job Description SALARY
$70,000 - $100,000 per year dependent on education and experience.
PURPOSE
To provide technical leadership to the Sales and Logistics teams by managing coal quality specifications throughout the end-to-end supply chain. This role ensures that the product is "fit for purpose" for the customer while maintaining strict compliance with international maritime safety standards and environmental regulations.
Responsibilities & Performance Standards
Supply Chain Quality Assurance (Mine-to-Port)
- Mine-Site Integration: Collaborate with Mine Planning and Geology teams to understand upcoming "coal seams." Predict and mitigate quality variations (e.g., higher fines or elevated moisture content) before the product reaches the stockpile.
- Non-Conformance Management: Lead technical investigations into "off-spec" samples. Develop remediation strategies (e.g., blending) to minimize commercial and operational impact.
- Value-In-Use (VIU) Modeling: Develop technical models to demonstrate how our coal performs in specific customer facilities (furnaces or coke ovens) compared to global competitors.
- Technical Liaison: Act as the primary technical point of contact for customers, and regulatory bodies (e.g., Transport Canada) regarding coal properties and safety certifications.
- B.Sc. or B.Eng. in Mining, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Geochemistry, or a related technical field.
- Proven experience with exposure to both Mine Operations (production/processing) and Commercial Marketing (sales/logistics).
- Standards Mastery: Strong working knowledge of ASTM D2234/D6610 and the IMSBC Code.
- Analytical Mindset: Demonstrated ability to translate complex laboratory data into actionable commercial risk assessments for senior leadership.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and demonstrated flexibility in responding to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The position is based in Vancouver, BC. The successful candidate will travel approximately 30% of the time, with travel including visits to both Mine Operations and Port Terminals.
