The Parks Maintenance Specialist performs various tasks involved in the maintenance and repair of the city-owned parks and facilities to ensure a safe, attractive and functional environment for employees and the general public. This includes the maintenance and repair of public parks, athletic fields, and other facilities; performs a variety of repair tasks.

- Parks Maintenance (30%)
- Performs general grounds maintenance outdoors, year-round in all types of weather conditions; duties include but not limited to mowing grass, edging, trimming and blowing walkways and other paved areas, removing weeds, overgrown vegetation, raking, installing landscape materials, mulching beds, removal/trims trees, pruning trees and shrubbery, watering turf and plants, removing trash and debris; applying pesticides and herbicides, fertilizing turf and plants
- Assists in planning, organizing, and set up of special events to include holiday decorating
- Facility Maintenance (30%)
- Performs general facility maintenance including but not limited to, irrigation system operation/maintenance; painting, installing signs, pressure washing, changing light bulbs/fixtures, performs general construction/renovation work such as light electrical and plumbing. Installs and/or repairs fencing, loads, hauls equipment, materials, and supplies to and from job sites, performs tasks related to sports field maintenance such as dragging/raking fields, laying seed/sod. Maintains safe playgrounds equipment by performing daily inspections; maintains and repairs splash pad
- Custodial Maintenance (30%)
- Performs custodial maintenance of recreational facilities, grounds and buildings: to include restroom maintenance, trash disposal, restocking supplies, cleaning floors, monitor building security by performing such tasks as unlocking/locking doors after/before operating hours
- Equipment Maintenance (10%)
- Mechanical maintenance of City issued equipment such as truck/trailer; tractor; mower, tiller; aerator and small equipment; maintains cleanliness and neatness of vehicle, equipment, and tools
- Work city events that occur after normal operating hours to include evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Rotational on-call shifts to open parks
- Represents the Department at meetings involving assigned activities
- All employees will have a role in the City's disaster preparation and/or disaster recovery efforts, as may be designated in the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan

- High School graduation or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma
- A minimum of two (2) years related work experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or a similar field
- A comparable amount of training, education, or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications
- Two (2) years experience in facilities maintenance
- Two (2) years experience in turf maintenance
- Limited Lawn and Ornamental Certification, must obtain within 1 year of hire
- Certified Pool Operator certification, must obtain within 1 year of hire
- Valid Florida Driver's license
- General knowledge of ground maintenance and installation, and proper equipment
- General knowledgeable of landscaping, irrigation, pump repairs, and chemical feed lines.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and other related computer skills
- Ability to operate a mower, blower, edger, trimmer, sprayer, a variety of hand and power tools/ small machinery, and other equipment to maintain public grounds and facilities
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor under adverse weather conditions, physically able to work outside year-round.
