The Maintenance Planning Specialist is responsible for leading and executing the daily, weekly, and long-range maintenance planning process for Plant McDonough. This role ensures effective coordination, scheduling, and preparation of all maintenance activities to maximize equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and support safe, efficient plant operations. The specialist will manage the 4-week planning cycle, develop detailed job plans for both mechanical and electrical crafts, and contribute to the plant’s overall maintenance strategy.
- Support the development and implementation of preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Analyze equipment performance and maintenance history to identify opportunities for improving reliability and efficiency.
- Collaborate with reliability engineers and operations teams to align maintenance activities with plant reliability goals.
- Lead the 4-week maintenance planning process, ensuring all work orders are clearly defined, properly scoped, and accurately prioritized.
- Develop detailed job plans for mechanical and electrical tasks, including labor requirements, materials, tools, permits, and safety considerations.
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance supervisors, procurement, and vendors to ensure resource availability.
- Maintain and update Maximo (or other CMMS) with accurate job plans, schedules, and work feedback.
- Facilitate daily and weekly planning/scheduling meetings with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
- Review completed work orders, ensuring quality documentation and continuous improvement of job plans.
- Monitor schedule compliance, adjust plans based on emergent work, and communicate changes to all stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to improve planning efficiency, work execution readiness, and overall maintenance effectiveness.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA), corrective action development, and reliability improvement initiatives.
- Support training and development for maintenance personnel on planning and CMMS best practices.- 5+ years of experience in maintenance planning within a power generation or heavy industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, preventive maintenance, and work management processes.
- Proficiency with CMMS systems such as Maximo or SAP.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across operations, maintenance, engineering, and procurement teams.
- Knowledge of maintenance best practices such as Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) and PM optimization.
- Experience developing, tracking, and interpreting maintenance KPIs and performance metrics.
- Strong safety mindset and familiarity with industrial safety programs and standards.
