Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Business Unit Manager who leads from the front and is not afraid to be involved in day-to-day operations. This role requires a strong field background and a deep understanding of all subordinate positions and responsibilities within the business unit. The successful candidate will take ownership of personnel, equipment, scheduling, training, and execution in a demanding, around-the-clock operating environment.
This position is best suited for a proven leader who has earned respect in the field, understands the realities of operations, and can effectively develop people while driving performance and accountability.
- Dispatch crews and manage daily, weekly, and long-term operational schedules
- Lead from the front lines and remain actively engaged with field operations as needed
- Manage employees including hiring, onboarding, performance management, discipline, and terminations
- Maintain full staffing coverage for a 24/7/365 operation
- Oversee training and development of new hires to ensure operational readiness and safety compliance
- Ensure all team members are properly trained, qualified, and capable of performing their duties
- Maintain a working knowledge of all subordinate roles to effectively lead, coach, and support personnel
- Oversee equipment readiness including maintenance scheduling, inspections, repairs, and compliance
- Coordinate with maintenance and shop teams to minimize downtime and maximize utilization
- Enforce safety standards, company policies, and operational procedures
- Respond to after-hours operational issues, emergencies, and escalations
- Monitor operational performance, labor efficiency, and equipment utilization
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
- Prior experience as a Tool Pusher strongly preferred
- Minimum experience equivalent to Driller
- Demonstrated ability to lead crews in demanding, high-pressure field environments
- Strong understanding of operational workflows and crew responsibilities
- Mechanically inclined with a solid understanding of heavy equipment maintenance
- Willingness to be present in the field and lead by example
- Strong decision-making, communication, and organizational skills
