SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Senior Payroll Administrator processes timely and accurate payroll for employees. This position is a subject matter expert in the administration of payroll processing within the Payroll System, provides guidance to all employees on time tracking within Payroll, continuously seeking improvement to procedures, and providing expertise and recommendations for enhanced performance.
Position Details
- Union – This position is permanent full time.
- Process full cycle payroll for multiple pay groups.
- Audit payroll data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance, according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), corporate policies and compliant with tax regulations.
- Monitor the accuracy and validity of employee data entered in the system before payroll processing. (e.g. employee onboarding status, employee type, scope, tax codes), resolving any discrepancies.
- Provide payroll direction and guidance to employees, managers, and other departments.
- Process ad hoc off cycle payments.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure employees are onboarded and offboarded accurately within payroll system.
- Prepare cheque requisitions each pay period, monthly or quarterly as required including union dues, Public Employee Pension Plan, government remittances and benefits.
- Perform analysis including research with legislation and regulations to resolve, respond, and recommend action on payroll inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop ad hoc financial and operational reports utilizing the Payroll System to provide further analysis and information as requested.
- Analyze and solution errors and anomalies impacting payroll.
- Provide accurate and timely General Ledger interfaces, account reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Provide guidance and advise on how to enter time into the Payroll system that is consistent to the terms within the CBA.
- Assist Managers with approvals of time submitted by their employees and ensure that the exceptions are properly entered into the Payroll system.
- Interact effectively and courteously with high degree of professionalism: exercising discretion and judgement handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Establish working relationships with other departments.
- Provide positive customer service responding to and resolving employee inquiries.
- Provide guidance and assistance to employees and managers to ensure all entry of pay is properly set up within the Payroll system.
- Create reporting to assist Managers to help monitor their teams time worked and absence. (i.e. monitor overtime, stand by, substitution, per diems).
- Troubleshoot with employees on why the system is not performing as intended. (i.e. access vs training).
- Research and implement process improvements within the payroll module.
- Diploma in Business Administration or Accounting.
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) Designation through the National Payroll Institute.
- Four (4) years of direct payroll experience including unionized environments, with a minimum of two (2) years of experience using payroll software (i.e., Workday).
