The Project Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of construction activities of new power construction projects while also supporting early-stage development of MRP’s thermal and renewable project pipeline. Support of multiple locations in parallel will be required. It is expected that the Project Manager can work with little direct supervision in accomplishing their tasks.
This position serves as an overall "Project Generation Developer", responsible for overseeing all stages of on-site construction activities related to energy generation projects. The Project Manager will assist with tasks ranging from pre-planning, onsite construction, commissioning activities, and operational handoff activities. Day-to-day responsibilities include supporting and managing on-site contractors, updating project schedules, reviewing contractor change order requests (escalating for reviews and approvals as necessary), and ensuring that projects are completed in a cost-effective and timely manner while adhering to all applicable technical and regulatory requirements.
This position will immediately fill the roll of Project Manager of a new BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) construction project in San Diego, CA. Frequent travel will be expected between the Gilbert, AZ office and the construction site in San Diego.
- Monitoring and reinforcing safe work practices for all project-related work.
- Daily activities associated with procurement, construction, testing, and start-up
- Negotiating and managing the implementation of contracts such as consulting services agreements, and procurement of materials and tooling necessary to construct the projects.
- Monitoring and supporting all quality control aspects for each site project (e.g. code compliance, environmental compliance, special inspections and local AHJ permitting requirements).
- Performing quality checks and milestone witness inspections at various hold points as defined in the respective project contracts.
- Ensuring all project-related training is in compliance (e.g. environmental training, site safety training, etc.)
- Supporting financial analysis as it relates to conceptual designs, execution plans, and operating budgets
- Working with existing plant staff to ensure that Contractors are not in jeopardy of causing disruption or interference to existing operating sites
- Facilitating site walkdowns, leading project kickoff meetings, scheduling coordination between all contractors and their respective subcontractors, inspecting and taking receipt of DOR support delivery items, and assisting with all activities leading up to the start of on-site activities.
- Diffusing any on-site labor disputes if they were to arise
- Providing daily and weekly project status reports and schedule updates
Additional responsibilities will include supporting new and/or energy-transitional generation projects to fulfill the requirements established by the Company. During off-peak construction, the Project Manager will be expected to work with the Development Team which includes interfacing with numerous consultants, contractors, and vendors.
- Due diligence of potential development opportunities (including potential out of state visits)
- Supporting thermal plant outages as the Point of Contact (POC) for the contractor as needed.
Traveling is required for this position (approximately 50%). Travel primarily consists of CA and AZ project locations but may extend to other states. Occasional visits to other MRP offices (Spokane, San Diego, and Chicago) is expected.
