The Powder Coater is responsible for applying powder coatings to metal and fabricated components in accordance with customer specifications, quality standards, and production schedules. This role supports contract manufacturing operations by ensuring consistent, high-quality finishes that meet durability, appearance, and performance requirements.
- Apply powder coating to metal parts using electrostatic spray equipment
- Prepare parts for coating by ensuring surfaces are properly cleaned, blasted, and masked
- Set up, operate, and adjust powder coating guns, booths, and reclaim systems
- Select correct powder types, colors, and application parameters per work orders
- Load and unload parts onto racks or conveyors safely and efficiently
- Cure coated parts in ovens per specified temperature and time requirements
- Inspect coated parts for coverage, thickness, adhesion, and cosmetic defects
- Perform touch-ups or rework as required
- Maintain coating equipment, ovens, and work areas; perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance
- Monitor powder usage and reclaim efficiency to minimize waste
- Follow work instructions, blueprints, and customer specifications
- Meet production schedules and quality targets in a job shop environment
- Accurately complete production and quality documentation
- Adhere to all safety, environmental, and PPE requirements
- OT may be required.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous powder coating or industrial finishing experience
- Knowledge of powder coating processes, materials, and equipment
- Ability to read and interpret work orders and basic drawings
- Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to lift up to [X] lbs and stand for extended periods
- Experience in a contract manufacturing or job shop environment
- Familiarity with coating thickness measurement (mil gauges)
- Understanding of pretreatment processes (washing, phosphating, blasting)
- Experience working under ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality systems
- Forklift or overhead crane certification
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Consistent, steady hand and good hand-eye coordination
- Time management and ability to meet deadlines

- Manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, powders, and industrial equipment
- Use of PPE including respirators, gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing

- Follow OSHA, environmental, and company safety policies
