- Set up and operate gear cutting machines such as gear hobbing machines and gear shapers.
- Adjust machine settings based on gear specifications, including gear type, pitch, and
- Read and interpret blueprints, gear charts, and technical drawings to determine machining
- Understand tolerances, gear geometry, and surface finish requirements.
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools, hobs, shaper cutters, arbors, and fixtures.
- Align workpieces and set gear blanks securely in machines.
- Perform gear cutting operations for spur, helical, sprockets and splines.
- Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Inspect finished gears using micrometers, calipers and other precision instruments.
- Verify pitch diameter, tooth profile, runout, and other gear characteristics.
- Perform routine maintenance on hobbing and shaping machines.
- Diagnose and correct issues related to tooling, alignment, and machine function.
- Maintain accurate records of setup parameters, production runs, and inspection results.
- Complete job travelers and quality control documentation.
- Follow all safety protocols and wear required PPE.
- Keep work area clean and free of debris, oil, and metal shavings.
- Work closely with engineers, supervisors, and quality control personnel to ensure production
- Communicate issues or improvement ideas to team leaders or management
