The IT Support Specialist is a customer service–oriented technical position responsible for providing on-site and remote information technology support. Under the general direction of the IT Operations Manager, this position primarily supports the Fire Department, delivering technical services across multiple fire station locations and public safety facilities. The role supports mission-critical systems and works independently and collaboratively with IT staff to ensure reliable technology operations for emergency response and daily activities.
• Serves as the primary IT support resource for the Fire Department, supporting personnel and systems at multiple fire station locations and Fire Department facilities. • Provides on-site and remote technical support for mission-critical public safety systems, devices, and applications.
- Responds to Helpdesk requests, documents incidents, and provides follow-up support until resolution or escalation.
- Deploys, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots computers, mobile devices, printers, phones, and related IT equipment.
- Assists Fire Department staff with technology use and basic troubleshooting of hardware and software.
• Troubleshoots network connectivity and end-user issues in a multi-site environment. • Assists with software and hardware installations, upgrades, and replacements.
• Generate reports from various Fire Department software for data analysis • Provides off-hours, on-call, and emergency IT support as required.
- Supports IT disaster recovery and emergency response efforts.
- Assists other City departments as operational needs require.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in information systems, computer science, or a closely related field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and progressively responsible experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.
- A minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience providing end-user technical support in a professional IT environment, including hardware, software, and peripheral troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated experience supporting Windows-based desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and standard office productivity applications.
- Working knowledge of basic networking concepts, including TCP/IP, LAN/WAN connectivity, and troubleshooting network-related issues.
- Ability to diagnose technical problems, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical users.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and respond effectively in time[1]sensitive or emergency situations.
- Valid State of Florida driver’s license and ability to travel between multiple Fire Department and City locations
- Ability to obtain and maintain Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification.
- - Public sector or public safety IT experience.
- Experience supporting multi-site environments.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
