MICA Steelworks is a private company that is a fabricator of quality steel Power Delivery Structures for the electric utility industry.
The Business Operations Specialist II is responsible for ensuring proper receipts against purchase orders and material issuance to jobs using our ERP system. Also, the employee will be responsible for using computer layout software to properly nest parts for processing in coordination with production.
In addition, the position has responsibilities associated with assisting in the raw materials inventory and inventory control processes, procedures and systems (including transactions; researching and correcting inaccuracies; reviewing and analyzing the results; receipts; preparation; conducting and reporting cycle counting; adjusting variances upon approval from accounting; organizing and conducting physical inventories; labeling, organizing and controlling raw materials; reporting inventory findings to plant management, accounting, and purchasing; and, making recommendations for process improvements).
- High School Diploma / GED. Associates Degree preferred.
- Operational experience a plus, especially in inventory accounting and management
- Prior production and inventory experience is required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)
- Bilingual English/Spanish, a plus
- Knowledge of ERP Systems required. Global Shop Solutions experience, a plus

1. Operates computer to lay out graphic display of parts to be machined in optimum arrangement nest generate control media for numerical-control drilling, routing, and cutting machines.
2. Reviews shop orders to define job specifications nesting requirements.
3. Sorts shop orders into groups according to compatibility factors, like quantity & shape of parts and type, size, alloy and gauge of material to be machined to produce nest that maximizes material utilization and minimizes machine setup operation.
4. Enters computer commands to retrieve stored parts data and graphic displays, like simulated patterns or templates, and displays manipulates part images on computer screen into optimum arrangement.
5. Calculates and codes machine controlling criteria, like table movement, type and size of cutting drilling tools, spindle location, and machining start point, feed rate, and speed, utilizing knowledge of numerical-control machine operation.
6. Enters commands to title and store nest layouts in computer memory and to build maintain source file.
7. Keys in commands to transfer nest data, listings, or layouts to other media, like hardcopy, tape, or floppy disk, or to route nest data by direct link to direct-numerical-control machines.
8. Performs all receiving transactions, including verification and record keeping, transactions, labeling, and organization of raw materials into ERP system.
9. Compares and identifies information and counts, weighs and measurements of items on incoming shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders and/or other records.
10. Works with Production teams to coordinate material movements, in alignment with production demands, including transaction material to be consumed, immediately upon release to production for consumption.
11. Reviews raw materials with job requirements to ensure availability prior to production deadlines.
12. Prepares, coordinates and leads cycle counting and physical inventories, inclusive of reconciliation and reporting exercises to meet overall inventory accuracy goals.
13. Maintains inventory control accuracy and documentation of transfers and internal movement related to transfers, receipts, drop returns, and consumption.
14. Maintains the department’s inventory database, including monitoring history of received and distributed materials, supplies and equipment.
15. Partners with management, divisions, and peers to address inventory requirements, availability, and shortages.
16. Works with data supplied for production and planning, to determine inventory needs and communicates this requirement to purchasing.
17. Ability to perform other tasks and/or projects as assigned
This position generally works in an office but is expected to become familiar with production operations and to independently visit company locations (3) within DFW, as directed or needed. This job has minimal physical exertion, but the incumbent must be able to sit, stand, and walk. When visiting the plants for observation, the position may require occasional squatting, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting, crawling, walking on rough ground, exposure to change in temperature or humidity, being near moving equipment, and/or working from heights. The incumbent must be able to occasionally lift/carry and push/pull up to 25 lbs.
