Location: MA & NH (North Shore, Southern NH) Industry: Utility Construction – Natural Gas & Electric Experience Required: 3–5 years
We are seeking a Field Safety Specialist to support our utility construction operations with a strong focus on natural gas and electric utility work. This role is field-based and works directly with crews, supervisors, and managers to identify hazards, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive safe work practices on active jobsites.
This position is hands-on and operational — not desk-only — and plays a critical role in preventing incidents, serious injuries, and damage to critical infrastructure.
- Conduct field safety inspections and audits on active utility construction sites
- Observe work practices and provide real-time coaching and corrective actions
- Support and verify compliance with:
- OSHA 29 CFR 1926 (Construction)
- OSHA 29 CFR 1910 (as applicable to tools, equipment, and facilities)
- NFPA
- DOT / PHMSA regulations (49 CFR Parts 191 & 192) for gas operations
- Natural Gas Operator Qualifications
- Client Safety Requirements and Mirra bets practices
- Participate in job briefings, tailgate meetings, and pre-task planning
- Assist with incident investigations, near misses, and corrective action follow-up
- Review and reinforce JHAs, permits, lockout/tagout, grounding, and energy-control practices
- Verify excavation & trenching compliance (protective systems, competent person duties)
- Monitor compliance with electrical safe work practices (approach distances, PPE, grounding)
- Track field observations and corrective actions using electronic reporting tools
- Serve as a safety resource to foremen, supervisors, and project managers
- 3–5 years of safety experience in utility construction, natural gas, or electric utility work
- Strong working knowledge of:
- OSHA 1926 Subparts (Excavation, Electrical, PPE, Heavy Equipment, Cranes)
- OSHA 1910 general industry standards as applied to tools and equipment
- PHMSA / DOT gas regulations (49 CFR 192 fundamentals)
- Experience working around:
- Natural gas distribution or transmission systems
- Energized or de-energized electric infrastructure
- Excavation, trenching, and underground utilities
- Ability to communicate effectively with field crews and leadership
- Comfortable enforcing safety requirements while maintaining positive field relationships
- Root Cause Analysis- Incident and Accident Investigation
- Ability to use Microsoft office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint etc.)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to jobsites daily
- OSHA 30 (Construction)

- Confined Space, Excavation Competent Person, Fall Protection, or Electrical Safety, Heavy equipment and lifting/hoisting
