Working directly for the HSE Manager, the HSE Advisor will be responsible for the evaluation and assessment of work environments, based on Rising Edge’s HSE policies and OH&S standards, where procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent injuries caused to employee are working on the job site. HSE Advisor will help ensure adherence to jurisdictional laws and regulations governing the occupational health and safety of employees, with the support of HSE department, and may conduct inspections. This position will based out of Calgary facility and travel to worksites throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia will be required dependent on field work schedules.
- The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
- Evaluating and assessing the work environment based all applicable internal, external and client policies and regulations. This is accomplished through auditing worksites to ensure that they are in compliance with the Rising Edge Health, Safety and Environmental programs.
- Ensuring compliance of regulations governing Health and Safety when job site/employees and subcontractor employees are not in compliance.
- May conduct work-site investigations and communicate the results of these to the HSE Manager.
- Continuously monitor any and all Health and Safety related issues noted or voiced by employees and subcontractor employees; and act as the on-site Point of Contact for all safety-related concerns.
- Continuously educate employees and subcontractor employees on health and safety policies, inform of new changes to Rising Edge’s policies, legislation, and industry standards.
- Set a good example for employees regarding HSE practices.
- Track HSE stats for projects.
- Submit daily progress/activity reports.
- This position is designated as safety-sensitive making employment contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as criminal and general background checks.
- Schedule rotations range from 4 days on / 3 days off or 8 days on / 6 days off, or 6 days on/ 1 day off
- Standard workdays are 10 hours (7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.)
- Overtime paid at time and a half after 10 hours per day and 40 hours per week
- Out-of-town work includes either all-inclusive camp accommodations or LOA and individual accommodations (project dependent)
- Five (5) years of related construction experience in a Health and Safety role.
- NCSO or equivalent level of training years of experience, and skills necessary to thoroughly understand the health and safety hazards and controls.
- Experience in the High Voltage Industry is a definite asset.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills is preferred.
- Thorough understanding of Incident Investigation, conformance verification and Root Cause Analysis is an asset.
- Ability to evaluate information to determine compliance with OH&S standards, Rising Edge Safety policies, etc. is needed.
- Software experience in Microsoft Suite (Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Outlook, ViewPoint, SiteDocs and TimeControl systems would be an asset.
- Knowledge of COR and its requirements
- Current CPR/standard first aid training
- Valid Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
