About the Role:
Join us at ATCO Electric as a
Work Desk Representative, Entry. As a valuable member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced and changing environment, where you will be challenged to excel and make a difference.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Central Work Desk and Dispatch, you will perform daily functions required in the 24/7 operation of the Central Work Desk. You will be responsible for responding to and routing incoming outage emergencies, as well as dispatching work requests from a Call Centre to the appropriate service provider in ATCO Electric’s distribution field operation. Your position uses job type and service targets to assess the appropriate priority and timely assignment of all work requests through the Central Work Desk.

What You’ll Do:
- Operational Commitment: Work rotational shifts (6:30 AM to 6:30 PM or 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM)
- Respond to all work requests, referrals, and restoration from Call Centers and direct customer inquiries via telephone, fax, radio, and email
- Time tag inbound calls and refer calls as required to the appropriate service provider
- Monitor and close work requests, producing work completion reports
- Provide general administrative and clerical support, including filing, photocopying, faxing, sorting mail, and data entry
- Assist the Supervisor, Central Work Desk, and Work Desk Representative Qualified
- Operate and utilize Work Force Management System (WFMS) and Outage Management System (OMS) to dispatch work requests, monitor progress, manage expectations, and ensure completion.
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- 0 - 2 years of related experience, ideally in a customer service, call-handling, or administrative setting.
- Confidence using standard computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and email.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks at once, such as working on a computer while speaking with customers by phone, in a 24/7 shift-based environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to remain professional, calm, and clear in all interactions.
- A genuine commitment to providing excellent customer service and positive customer experiences.
- Well-developed organizational and time‑management skills, with strong attention to detail and follow-through.
- The ability to work independently, stay motivated, and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with utility operations, service territories, or working with geographically dispersed customers.
- Experience with data entry or customer information systems.
- This role includes participation in a 24/7 rotational on-call schedule.
- To support on-call coverage, you must be able to reside within 30 minutes of the Central Work Desk facility.
An expectation of the Work Desk Representative position is to sometimes provide after-hours stand-by duties. As such, you will be required to maintain a residence within the established service point boundary for Vegreville, AB.
