We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Specialist to take full ownership of complex, multi-jurisdictional payroll operations. This temporary role is critical in managing end-to-end payroll for both U.S. and Canada employees, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timely processing. The ideal candidate brings extensive hands-on experience, discretion with sensitive data, and the ability to support teams across various regions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute full-cycle payroll for U.S. multi-state and international (Canada) employees on a bi-weekly/semi-monthly schedule.
- Audit payroll inputs (hours worked, bonuses, deductions, time-off, etc.) for accuracy and policy compliance.
- Ensure payroll processing adheres to federal, state, provincial, and international tax laws and labor regulations.
- Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and year-end reports (e.g., W-2s, T4s, ROEs).
- Resolve complex payroll issues and respond to employee inquiries across regions in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain and safeguard payroll records in compliance with company and regulatory retention policies.
- Support audits by preparing detailed reports and documentation for internal, external, and tax authorities.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with HR and Finance to support benefits, compensation, and accounting integrations.
- Identify and implement process improvements and system enhancements to optimize payroll efficiency and compliance.
- Lead and support Dayforce payroll processes and administration during company-wide platform implementation.
- Stay informed on evolving payroll legislation in the U.S. and internationally.
- Work experience will be prioritized but a Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field is appreciated.
- 10+ years of hands-on payroll experience, ideally including multi-state and international payroll processing.- Proficiency in payroll platforms such as Dayforce (required) and similar.
- Very strong proficiency in Excel is mandatory with advanced abilities leveraged weekly.
- Strong understanding of U.S. and international payroll compliance, tax regulations, and audit requirements.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage payroll independently.
- An inherent curiosity about processes, problem solving, and gathering the required information to execute on both.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification preferred but as-mentioned, work experience will be prioritized..
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Experience working with HRIS or ERP systems (e.g., Workday, SAP, Oracle).
- Knowledge of Canadian ROEs, payroll practices, or other global jurisdictions.
- Background in payroll system implementation or process improvement projects is a plus.
