Since September 2009, Whitecap has experienced remarkable growth, increasing production from 850 boe/d to over 365,000 boe/d. Whitecap Resources Inc. is currently looking for an intermediate to senior Geologist to join a dynamic multi-disciplinary technical team. The position involves working with a fast-paced team of geology, geophysics, engineering, land and operations personnel, and reports to the regional Geology Manager. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of conventional development, enhanced oil recovery and reservoir evaluation techniques ; e xperience in Alberta deep basin reservoirs is considered desirable.
- Work as an area geologist with a multi-disciplinary team focusing on characterizing, identifying and high-grading development and growth opportunities
- Responsible for regional and detailed geological mapping to select future drilling locations and estimate reserves
- Accountable for success of geological operations including planning horizontal drilling programs, and executing geosteering of horizontal wells during 24/7 operations
- Responsible for managing area location inventory, building annual budget programs, and producing professional presentation material with the team for management purposes
- Proactively work with team to consolidate core areas through landsales, swaps and acquisitions
- Monitor industry activity and new technical advancements
- BSc. or higher degree in Geology and Professional Geologist designation accredited with APEGA or another professional governing association and eligible for registration with APEGA
- Minimum of 10 years experience with preference given to development experience in Alberta conventional plays and hands-on practical horizontal drill planning and execution
- Experience with stratigraphy, reservoir mapping, reservoir analysis and characterization, and reserves determination
- Aptitude and willingness to learn new software e.g. Petrel, Starsteer, Tableau
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Excels in an integrated multidisciplinary team environment
- Applies sound business strategies and appropriate risk assessment
