About Us
Over the last 60 years, Alpha Southwest has grown into the largest deep-set turbine and water well contractor in New Mexico and the far West Texas region. Our headquarters are located in Albuquerque, and we offer supply and service capabilities for booster pumps and wells, as well as electrical switchgear and controls, and electric motors. Alpha Southwest also maintains an operational facility in El Paso, TX. We serve the municipal, industrial, and commercial markets. Focus on significant maintenance contracts that cover deep-set turbine, booster, and submersible pumps, as well as electrical services (control voltage up to 4160V) and instrumentation/controls, SCADA systems, flow measurement, valves, well rehabilitation and repair, vertical turbine pump rehabilitation and repair/replacement. Wastewater submersible sewage pumps, fluid transferring booster pumps, and chemical dosing pumps. ASW also has fabrication and machining at both shops to support all these activities. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Welder/Fabricator/Builder to join our team.
Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating all types of welding equipment (arc, TIG, MIG, sub‐arc, oxyacetylene). Perform complex welding on designated parts, assemblies, tooling, or other items working to exacting tolerances. Requires extensive knowledge of all aspects of the welding process. Experience working with Stainless Steel and Exotic Stainless materials is preferred. Must have a minimum of three (3) years' experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•Plan, lay out, and set up welding equipment for production and repair work
•Preparation, welding, and finishing operations of product components
•Interpretation of mechanical drawings, including weld requirement symbols, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals
•Process inspection & certification, and documentation
•Welding equipment maintenance
•Finish grinding applications using manual and power tools
•Assist in the general assembly of our packaged pump systems as required
•Handling materials with cranes and forklifts
•Identifying piping components and assembling piping systems
•Other duties may be assigned
What We're Looking For
•Proficient in the use of MIG welding, plasma torches, and carbon arc cutting
•Knowledge of wire and filler materials applications for various steels
•Working knowledge of fixturing and weld set up parameters (amps, volts, etc.)
•Working knowledge of conventional and precision measuring instruments
•General metalworking skills
•Able to achieve certification per AWS D1.1 in GMAW 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G positions
•Must have the ability or learn to program and run a CNC plasma table
•Must provide your weld hood
•Must be able to pass a drug test to be considered for employment

Education/Experience
•High School diploma, or equivalent
•Successful completion of an internal welding test
•3 years’ experience in MIG welding
Math and Computer Skills
•Ability to perform basic math skills in all units of measure
•Basic knowledge of MS Office Suite software, Internet Explorer preferred
Physical Demands
•Requires lifting up to 50 pounds, with frequent bending, stooping, and standing, some overhead lifting, and repetitive use of hands and arms
•Stand, use hands to finger materials, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
•Occasionally walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
Work Environment
Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee may occasionally be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and the risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position may require occasional travel for field projects.
