Key Objective:
Persons filling this role will be fabricating, fitting/assembling and welding parts and assemblies for ornamental and structural steel products. At times PMNW supplies surge capacity to other fabricators in the region and may take on specialty projects therefore the work is not limited to ornamental and structural steel products only.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
•Adhere to company policies pertaining to safety, quality, production, attendance, and others as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
•Maintain a clean and safe work area free of obstacles and obstructions.
•Perform daily inspections of tools and equipment to assure all tools and equipment are functionally safe and able to produce quality workmanship.
•Read and interpret schedules and/or daily assignments outlined by the Production Manager or his/her appointee. (ie: Shop Foreman)
•Read and interpret drawings and applicable specifications to ensure high quality production and customer satisfaction.
•Organize tasks for high productivity and quality workmanship without rework.
•Complete work in a timely manner while exploring methods and techniques to improve productivity and quality.
•Operate fabrication related equipment such as presses, iron workers, saws, drill presses, hand tools, CNC equipment, etc.
•Perform welding functions, with recognition of shop drawing requirements as well as industry standards, utilizing GMAW, SMAW, and/or FCAW welding processes.
•Evaluate in-process weld quality with respect to applicable visual inspection acceptance criteria.
•Apply knowledge of AISC and applicable AWS standards by executing compliant processes and fabrication techniques such as trimming, forming, filing, grinding, deburring, buffing, and smoothing surfaces.
•Perform oxy-fuel and plasma cutting operations.
•Execute layout of various features utilizing standard and advanced layout tools such as squares, protractors, divider heads, dial calipers, levels, etc.
•Fabricate specialty tools such as layout jigs, fixtures, and/or other equipment.
•Use powered and non-powered hand tools.
•Perform first piece inspections as needed and within one’s capabilities.
•Complete all production related documentation as needed.
•Other duties as assigned.
Education and Skills Required:
•Basic to intermediate computer skills may often be useful.
•Basic to intermediate math skills which may include some functions of geometry and trigonometry.
•Good communication skills; both written and verbal.
•Excellent knowledge of steel shapes, sizes, and grades.
•Excellent knowledge of AWS welding symbols and visual acceptance criteria.
•AWS Welder Qualifications for: GMAW, SMAW, and FCAW welding processes preferred.
•A minimum of 5 years experience in structural welding is preferred.
•High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Work Environment
This position primarily operates in an industrial steel fabrication environment as well as on construction sites. Occasional exposure to a professional office environment should be expected. This position may involve repetitive activities. This position will involve the use of various types of power tools; electric, hydraulic, and pneumatic. Exposures should be considered standard for working in a metal fabrication and welding environment however elevated exposures to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, electrical arcs, sparks, and excessive noise may sometimes occur. Moderate physical activity required on a regular basis including the handling of objects of up to 50 lbs. Job may require standing and/or walking for more than four hours per day.
