Your Next Challenge
Are you interested in combining structural geology and geotechnical problem solving in order to better understand rock mass behaviours in response to mining underground and on surface? Are you interested in exploring technology to accomplish this? If you answered « yes » the structural geologist position as part of Agnico Eagle’s Technical Services Geotechnical Team is for you.
As a Structural Geologist in the Geotechnical Team, you will act as the liaison with Exploration, Operations, Technical Services and Corporate Geology groups. This role bridges the gap between geotechnical data and site and regional geological data to ensure a robust understanding of litho-structural controls that influence geotechnical design considerations for underground and open pit operations and projects. Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Advisor, you will work as a member of the Geotechnical Team and in collaboration with members of the other departments of Technical Services. You will be responsible for tasks which combine structural geology and rock mechanics in studies to develop various projects, or support Agnico Eagles’s mining operations.
You may, on occasion, be required to provide technical support to Agnico Eagle’s divisional engineering teams. You will also participate in drafting recommendations with internal stakeholders to identify the necessary actions to implement in order to ensure the sustainability of existing and future mineral reserves. You will ensure liaisons with other technical specialists in other disciplines, including geology, hydrology, metallurgy and environment.
Specifically, You Will Be Responsible For
- Plan, collect, compile and analyze structural and geotechnical data for rock mass characterization. The work involves close collaboration with internal and external interdisciplinary teams;
- Use and/or develop geomechanical and geological analysis tools and digital modelling in conjunction with the data collected to evaluate stability and optimize the design of underground and surface works;
- Participate in underground and open pit excavation design projects;
- Support divisions and project managers in matters related to structural geology for geotechnical applications;
- Work with a multidisciplinary team and coordinate, as required, design activities with external engineering firms;
- Prepare proposals, technical reports and reviews;

- Minimum of five (5) to ten (10) years of relevant experience in:
- Structural geology mapping, data collection (including oriented core), modelling, and preparation of cross-sections;
- Geotechnical field work, data collection, soil and rock mass characterization and analysis in accordance with rock mass classification schemes (RMR, Q, etc.);
- Core scanning and geophysical (televiewer) data acquisition and analysis;
- Project planning and management through entire opportunity-to-delivery cycle, drilling and construction-phase supervision, design validation;
- Technical writing, review, and risk assessment.
- Interdisciplinary work experience across diverse geological settings (deeply weathered terrains, glacial terrains, metamorphic belts, etc.)
