The Opportunity:

The Leadership Conference is seeking a Sr. Manager, Media Relations, to join our Communications department. The ideal candidate is passionate about civil and human rights and will have extensive experience facilitating media relations and engagement with the press that further advocacy communication campaigns and issues that drive The Leadership Conference’s mission.

This position will report to the Director, Media Relations & Editorial and is part of the collective bargaining unit


Candidate Profile:

The Sr. Manager, Media Relations will be responsible for having the following responsibilities.

- Draft strategic communications plans that draw upon traditional tactics and new media frameworks that align with our digital platforms and media opportunities, senior leaders and creative team to execute campaigns and initiatives

- Develop and implement proactive media relations strategies to enhance the organization’s visibility and reputation

- Create and distribute press releases, talking points, statements and other communications materials

- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, editors, content producers, and other media representatives

- Monitor and analyze media coverage and industry trends to proactively identify opportunities to leverage the organizational work and content of The Leadership Conference

- Coordinate and manage press conferences, interviews, and other media events

- Respond to media inquiries, brief and prep spokespersons, and provide accurate information to journalists

- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging across all channels

- Analyze media coverage and prepare reports on media relations effectiveness

- Perform other duties as assigned


In addition, strong candidates will offer:

- Proven commitment to civil and human rights with a passion for the issues represented by The Leadership Conference

- Minimum of 6 years policy advocacy and political communications experience

- Minimum of 6 years cross-functional senior management experience in a Communications department

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail and the ability to bring one voice to The Leadership Conference

- Proven track record of modernizing communications for organizations both internally and externally

- Experience in fast-paced environments, including crisis communications and rapid response

- Thoughtful listener with a keen ability for discernment

- Applied experience in a journalism or editorial environment, having worked with government relations/government affairs a plus

- Strong interpersonal skills and collegial working style

Compensation & Benefits:

The target salary range for this position is $110,611 – $145,132.

The range provided is the minimum and maximum salary. The Leadership Conference, in good faith, believes that at the time of this posting, it is willing to pay the advertised salary for the position. Exact compensation is commensurate with experience and reflects internal comparisons.

Salaries are just one component of The Leadership Conference’s total compensation package. The Leadership Conference is committed to supporting our staff’s physical, emotional, and financial well-being through a robust benefits package for you, eligible dependents, and domestic partners. It includes generous paid time off, including fifteen (15) federal holidays, as well as biweekly organization-specific holidays, medical, dental, and vision insurance, and transit benefits. The Leadership Conference has formally recognized a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 2 – AFL-CIO. The Leadership Conference and the Union, guided by a CBA, work together in good faith and are motivated by a shared history and commitment to this organization.


In-Office Work Policy:

The Leadership Conference has implemented a hybrid In-Office Work Policy in three phases. As of September 1, 2025, the first phase requires staff members to work in person from the office at least 2 days per month. As of January 1, 2026, the second phase requires staff members to work in person from the office at least 1 day per week or 4 days per month. The final phase begins on April 1, 2026; staff members will be required to work in person from the office at least 2 days per week or 8 days per month.
