We are seeking a highly experienced Structural and Miscellaneous Steel Estimator who acts as a true self-starter. This is not an entry-level position; we need a veteran capable of hitting the ground running with minimal supervision.
In this role, you will be responsible for the full estimating lifecycle—from takeoff to proposal—for both fabrication and erection. You will also serve as a key face of the company, traveling throughout Central Florida to meet clients, negotiate contracts, and secure work.
- Full-Scope Estimating: Perform accurate, detailed takeoffs and cost estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel projects, covering both shop fabrication and field erection labor/equipment.
- Sales & Business Development: Actively manage client relationships. Travel locally within the Central Florida region to attend pre-bid meetings, scope reviews, and negotiate final contract terms.
- Bid Management: Review bid documents, blueprints, and specifications to identify risks, scope gaps, and value-engineering opportunities.
- Vendor Coordination: Obtain competitive pricing for raw materials, sublet items (joist/deck), and outside services (galvanizing, powder coating).
- Autonomy: Manage your own bid schedule and pipeline effectively without the need for micromanagement.- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of dedicated experience estimating structural AND miscellaneous steel.
- Dual Knowledge: Must possess a deep understanding of both fabrication processes and steel erection logistics (cranes, site access, welding).
- Proven Track Record: Demonstrated history of managing a bid pipeline and securing multi-million dollar annual sales figures. References will be contacted to verify performance history. It is recommended to bring a sales portfolio with you during all interview processes.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading complex blueprints and architectural drawings. Experience with estimating software (e.g., FabSuite, Tekla EPM, Bluebeam) and Microsoft Excel is required.
- Soft Skills: Aggressive self-starter with excellent negotiation and communication skills.
- Travel: Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel frequently within Central Florida for client meetings and site visits.
