This is not a typical “Sales Engineer” position.
We’re looking for someone who can take a complex fabrication print, break it down into real manufacturing steps, and build accurate, competitive quotes—quickly and confidently.
You’ll be a key part of our front-end process, working directly with sales, customers, and production to ensure what we quote is both profitable and manufacturable.
If your strength is translating prints into real-world cost, routing, and process decisions—and you understand how fabrication actually happens on the shop floor—you’ll do well here.
- Review incoming RFQs and analyze prints, weldments, and machined components
- Build complete cost estimates including: Material; Labor (cutting, forming, welding, machining, assembly, blast and paint); and Outside services (heat treat, specialized machining, coating, etc.)
- Develop accurate routings and work instructions in ERP (Aptean Workwise)
- Validate manufacturability with production and identify cost-saving
- Turn quotes around in a timely, reliable manner (typically 24–72 hours depending on complexity)
- Partner with buyers to clarify customer requirements and improve win rates
- Perform contract reviews to ensure alignment between quote, print, and customer expectations
- Maintain organization and ownership of all quoted and pending jobs
- Review and prioritize 3–10 incoming RFQs
- Break down fabrication and machining steps and estimate time and material for 3-10 RFQs
- Review 3-10 purchase orders for compliance with quote
- For accepted purchase orders build and refine routings in the ERP system
- Collaborate with shop personnel on both open purchase orders as well as RFQs
- Submit quotes and support follow-up with customers
- Continuously improve quoting accuracy and speed- Have more than 3+ years hands-on estimating experience in a metal fabrication or job shop environment
- Can confidently quote weldments, machined parts, and assemblies from prints
- Understand real-world shop capabilities (cutting, forming, welding, CNC machining, blasting and painting)
- Have built routings and understand how they impact cost and margin
- Are comfortable working in ERP/MRP systems
- Can move quickly without sacrificing accuracy
- Communicate clearly with both shop personnel and customers
This role is NOT a fit if you:
- Primarily come from a pure sales or account management background
- Have limited exposure to fabrication processes or shop environments
- Have not owned full quoting or estimating responsibilities- 3+ years in metal fabrication estimating, manufacturing engineering, or quoting
- Strong ability to read and interpret prints, including GD&T
- Experience with ERP systems (JobBOSS, ProShop, Apten, Paperless Parts, etc.)
- Proficiency in Excel, Word and Outlook
- Base Salary: $70,000 – $100,000 (flexible based on experience)
- Quarterly Bonus’ payments based on the Adjusted EBIT
- Clear path for growth into senior technical or sales leadership roles
What we quote drives everything—production efficiency, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
We’re looking for someone who takes ownership of that responsibility and wants to play a key role in growing the business.
If you have estimating experience in fabrication and want to work in a role where your decisions directly impact the business, we’d like to talk.
Qualified candidates will be asked to review a sample print and walk through how they would approach quoting the job.
