The Structural Steel Estimator is responsible for analyzing project plans, specifications, and related documents to prepare accurate cost estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection. We invite you to submit your resume if you are interested!
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents to understand project scope
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for structural steel, misc. metals, and related components
- Solicit and evaluate quotes from vendors and subcontractors
- Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and overhead
- Identify potential risks, cost-saving opportunities, and value engineering options
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and detailers to ensure estimate accuracy
- Maintain and update cost databases and historical pricing records
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits when required
- Assist in preparing bid proposals and supporting documentation
- Follow up on submitted bids and track outcomes for continuous improvement- 2–5+ years of experience in structural steel estimating (or related construction estimating).
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication and erection processes
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and specifications
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Tekla EPM, Bluebeam, Excel, or similar tools)
- Strong math and analytical skills
- Detail-oriented with solid organizational abilities
- Effective communication and negotiation skills
- Experience with takeoff software and 3D modeling tools
- Knowledge of AISC standards and industry practices
- Familiarity with project scheduling and sequencing
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple bids
