We are a growing steel fabrication company specializing in the design, fabrication, delivery, and installation of structural steel and metal projects. We are looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Steel Structure Takeoff & Estimator to join our team.
- Review architectural, structural, and engineering drawings to perform accurate material takeoffs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and related components.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, including materials, fabrication, subcontracting, equipment, transportation, and installation.
- Prepare RFIs, clarify missing or conflicting information, and communicate with engineers/GCs.
- Analyze project specifications, tender documents, and bid requirements.
- Work closely with the design, drafting, project management, and production teams to ensure alignment between estimating and execution.
- Maintain organized records of takeoffs, quotes, pricing, and vendor information.
- Assist in value engineering proposals when needed.
- Participate in bid reviews and prepare final quotation packages.
- Update pricing databases and ensure estimates follow company standards.
- 1-3 years of experience in structural steel estimating or takeoff work (preferred).
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication, erection, and industry terminology.
- Ability to read and interpret structural/architectural drawings and specifications.
- Experience with takeoff or estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Tekla, SDS2, ProEst, Planswift, or similar).
- Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines and work on multiple bids simultaneously.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and general computer skills.
- Experience in steel fabrication shops or erection companies.
- Background in engineering, drafting, construction management, or related technical fields.
- Knowledge of Canadian building codes and industry standards (CISC, CSA).
