U.S. Pipe is seeking a Senior Purchasing Manager to join our team. This person will lead plant-level purchasing responsibilities across multiple ductile iron pipe facilities. This role is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted material flow to support plant operations while driving cost control, supplier accountability, and standardized purchasing practices. The position serves as the escalation point for critical supply issues and works closely with plant leadership, maintenance, engineering, and logistics to keep production running safely, efficiently, and on budget.
- Lead, coach, and hold accountable the Purchasing Managers at each plant.
- Standardize purchasing practices while allowing flexibility for plant-specific needs.
- Serve as escalation support for critical material shortages or supplier failures.
- Build strong relationships with plant managers, maintenance leaders, and engineers.
- Oversee sourcing and availability of critical production materials.
- Ensure material strategies align with melt schedules, casting rates, and production plans.
- Manage supplier performance to maintain consistent quality and delivery.
- Lead purchasing strategy for MRO items supporting plant operations.
- Partner with maintenance and engineering teams to support planned outages and emergency repairs.
- Negotiate contracts, pricing, and service agreements with key suppliers.
- Develop preferred supplier programs for critical categories.
- Conduct supplier performance reviews focused on delivery, quality, and responsiveness.
- Mitigate supply risks and develop contingency sourcing plans for critical materials.
- Drive year-over-year cost reduction without compromising safety or reliability.
- Create and manage plant purchasing budgets and forecast material spend.
- Analyze cost drivers related to scrap markets, alloys, and inbound freight.
- Partner with finance and operations to track savings and purchasing performance.
- Ensure accurate PO execution, contract compliance, and ERP discipline.
- Improve purchasing visibility, data accuracy, and reporting across plants.
- Standardize contracts, vendor setups, and approval workflows.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and ethical sourcing standards.
- Create all monthly corporate scrap reporting.
- Perform usage, pricing and spend analytics for RFP’s and Executive Level Presentations.
- Communicate risks tied to market volatility, supplier constraints, or operational disruptions.
- Support senior leadership with clear, actionable purchasing data and insights.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field required.
- 10+ years of purchasing or procurement experience in heavy manufacturing required.- Proven experience leading purchasing teams.
- Strong understanding of foundry or metals-based manufacturing operations.
- Demonstrated success managing raw materials and MRO.
- Experience in ductile iron pipe, foundry, steel, or construction materials manufacturing preferred.
- Regular travel to manufacturing facilities required.
- Exposure to industrial and foundry environments.
