Safety Director – Waste & Recycling Transportation
Location: Princeton, West Virginia (Travel required to surrounding states)

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Safety Director to lead and manage all aspects of safety, compliance, and risk mitigation for our waste and recycling trucking operations. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving a comprehensive safety program that ensures compliance with all FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
This is a key leadership position that will play a critical role in supporting our company’s continued growth while maintaining the highest safety standards.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company-wide safety program
- Establish safety policies, procedures, and standard operating practices for all trucking and waste operations
- Build and reinforce a strong safety culture across a growing workforce
- Monitor safety performance metrics and implement corrective actions
Regulatory Compliance (FMCSA, DOT, State & Local)
- Ensure full compliance with FMCSA and DOT regulations, as well as West Virginia and surrounding state requirements
- Act as the company’s subject matter expert on transportation safety laws and regulatory changes
- Maintain audit readiness for federal, state, and third-party inspections
- Oversee Driver Qualification (DQ) files, CDL compliance, and medical certifications
- Manage Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and ELD systems
- Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for drivers and staff
- Oversee onboarding and safety orientation for all new drivers as the company grows
- Conduct ongoing training in defensive driving, waste handling, and compliance updates
- Implement driver coaching, monitoring, and corrective action programs
- Lead all accident and incident investigations
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement preventative measures
- Manage claims in coordination with insurance providers and legal teams
- Analyze trends and implement strategies to reduce risk and liability
- Conduct internal audits, inspections, and compliance reviews
- Maintain all required safety records and documentation
- Prepare and present safety performance reports to leadership
- Track KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Partner with operations and maintenance teams to ensure fleet safety compliance
- Oversee vehicle inspection, maintenance, and repair compliance processes
- Manage drug and alcohol testing programs in accordance with federal regulations
- Evaluate and implement safety technologies (telematics, dash cameras, etc.)
- Lead and develop safety personnel as the company expands
- Collaborate with leadership to scale safety programs alongside company growth
- Ensure consistent safety practices across new locations and operations
- Support hiring, onboarding, and expansion efforts from a safety perspective- 5–10+ years of safety leadership experience in trucking, waste, or transportation
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and OSHA regulations
- Experience supporting multi-state operations and growth environments
- Proven track record in safety program development and compliance management
- Professional certifications such as CSP or similar (preferred)
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
