Westmoreland Rosebud Mining LLC is seeking an experienced and motivated Safety Supervisor to join our team at the Rosebud Mine in Colstrip, Montana. The Safety Supervisor provides leadership, direction, and coordination of health and safety programs designed to promote safe, compliant, and efficient mining operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring adherence to MSHA regulations, company policies, and state safety requirements while cultivating a proactive safety culture throughout all mine departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily safety activities across mine operations, ensuring consistent compliance with MSHA Part 77 and company safety standards.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and development to site personnel.
- Conduct regular inspections, leadership walks, audits, and risk assessments to identify and eliminate hazards in all operational areas.
- Coordinate and deliver MSHA-required training programs such as New Miner, Annual Refresher, and Supervisor First Aid Training.
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and injuries, ensuring root-cause analysis and timely corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate reporting and recordkeeping for incidents, training, inspections, and compliance metrics.
- Assist management in developing and revising mine-specific safety policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
- Serve as the primary liaison between mine management and MSHA, State, and Federal representatives during inspections or investigations.
- Prepare and present safety meetings, metrics, and performance trends to mine personnel.
- Promote continuous improvement and employee engagement in safety through field presence, training, and the SAFE-7 program.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Mining Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial or mining safety, preferably in surface coal operations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of MSHA regulations (30 CFR Part 77) and applicable state and federal safety laws.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and safety management systems for reporting and data tracking.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, interpret trends, and develop effective corrective actions.
- Certified MSHA Instructor or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
- Successful applicant must possess a valid driver’s license through the duration of employment. Successful applicant must meet all insurability requirements as specified by Westmoreland’s policies or Driver’s insurance provider.
