The Director of Safety and Compliance is responsible for leading all safety and compliance initiatives. This includes developing and maintaining safety policies, procedures, and training programs, conducting risk assessments and incident investigations, and ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. The Director of Safety and Compliance is responsible for fostering a strong safety culture throughout the organization as well as leading and maintaining a high-performing safety and compliance team.
- Ensure compliance with regulated standards, including ADEC, DOT, EPA, FMCSA, OSHA and USCG.
- Develop and train leaders to foster a proactive, preventative safety environment and enhance accountability for safety results.
- Create, implement, and update corporate safety and compliance programs, policies, and manuals in alignment with regulations and industry best practices.
- Design and deliver safety training for all staff. Educate managers and employees on safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of facilities and job sites to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues. Perform risk assessments and develop corrective action plans to mitigate identified risks.
- Report all property damage claims, investigate, and follow through until claims are closed.
- Oversee the investigation of all accidents, injuries, and near-misses. Lead root cause analysis to prevent future incidents. Manage the workers' compensation claims process in partnership with human resources.
- Prepare reports on occurrences and provide information, statistical data, and estimated cost to upper management.
- Oversee and work with third-party consultants and contractors providing related services.
- Maintain a robust record keeping system.
- Maintain regular communication and correspondence with insurance carriers. Regularly represent company at safety events and workshops.
- Coordinate with carriers on claim review, Risk Control Assessment documentation, and site visits.
- Maintain all required safety records, including OSHA 300 logs. Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies and external auditors.
- Oversee comprehensive safety training programs for drivers and equipment operators, focused on accident prevention and compliance.
- Leverage data to evaluate safety program effectiveness, identify risks and trends, and implement continuous improvement strategies for exceptional safety practices.

Experience: Five to ten years of progressive experience in safety and compliance management.

Work Environment: This position requires exposure to industrial areas and marine location which requires the use of personal protective equipment such as appropriate footwear, safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection. Industrial areas include hazardous chemicals, fumes, and petroleum by-products. Requires walking on varying surfaces, including hazardous and slippery conditions throughout the day.
