The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager South Cogeneration and Storage- Power & Energy Solutions, the Operations and Maintenance Site Technician will work jointly with the Site Host in Carseland, AB to support operations and maintenance activities for the Cogeneration Plant.
We are seeking a talented professional who has knowledge and experience in monitoring and supporting routine operation and maintenance of a Cogeneration Facility, as well as planning and executing non-routine maintenance and repairs of Cogeneration Plant equipment (including but not limited to the gas turbine, generator, HRSG, feedwater and condensate systems, fuel gas and auxiliaries as well as electrical and control systems).
What You’ll Do
- Monitor and support the Site Host with the routine operation and maintenance of the cogeneration plant
- Review plant daily operating data and reports and identify risks that could impact the approved production and environmental plans
- Engage OEM vendors and third-party contractors to assist in troubleshooting and repair of power plant equipment, as well as be the Site Representative for the Gas Turbine
- Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management systems (SAP) to notify corrective maintenance, create work orders and verify completion in accordance with business/work planning processes
- Coordinate and perform scheduled preventive maintenance on plant equipment
- Solicit vendor quotations for replacement parts, materials and contractor services and complete requisitions for manager approval
- Develop annual outage scope of work and support the management of outage execution using a combination of both internal and external resources
- Maintain operational and maintenance records via SAP
- Support annual budgeting process and manage the maintenance budget to plan
- Liaison with engineering and project management teams associated with capital planning and plant improvements
- Support the coordination and scheduling of power plant outages (planned, forced and derates) and testing requirements (i.e., RATA testing, WECC testing, etc.) through the Commercial and Compliance Teams as well as liaison with Safety and Environmental Teams to complete annual reports
- Ensure plant modifications are completed in accordance with management of change process
- Respond to customer/business partner needs in a timely manner and respond to 24-hour call-out or emergency situations
- Post-secondary education in a relevant Red Seal trade certification such as Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation (Power Engineering and/or Technologist diploma will also be considered)
- 8 years of related work experience in a power plant, cogeneration plant or process operation experience
- Industrial DCS or PLC experience
- Previous experience with industrial gas turbines and HRSGs
- Ability to supervise Contractors in performing a wide range of maintenance activities
- Demonstrated experience using Computerized Maintenance Management System such as SAP
- Competent with MS Office suite of products and demonstrated ability to attain competency with customized software products
- Have and maintain a valid Driver's License and provide a Driver's Abstract for review
- Successfully complete a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing
- Be available after normal work hours and weekends, as required
- Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, outages, meetings or training
