Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations & Maintenance Technicians work as part of a four-person crew on a 12-hour rotating shift, assigned as a Power Block Operator or Water Treatment Operator, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a 1092MW Combined Cycle Power Plant under the supervision and direction of a Shift Lead/Control Room Operator. The Operators may be asked to provide relief duties for the Control Room Operator (if qualified), Outside Operator, and/or Water Treatment Facility Operator as required. The Operators must be able to work with others and assist in Overtime for other shifts as required.
You will contribute to our team by:
- Ensuring the safe operation of all plant equipment throughout various operational situations, including gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, heat recovery steam generators, air compressors, water treatment equipment, demineralizers, motors, pumps, fire suppression systems, and all other balance of plant auxiliary equipment.
- Reading meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, fluid levels, and water chemistry to verify operating conditions.
- Being able to Start, Stop, and manipulate equipment as directed.
- Performing Chemical offloads in accordance with written procedures.
- Communicating issues or non-routine items to the Control Room Operator and applying excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to help resolve issues.
- Performing plant equipment Lock out Tag out program as directed.
- Maintaining operational consistency across other crews and departments.
- Ensuring compliance with all local, State, and Federal regulations, as well as Corporate and Site-specific procedures to protect employees, contractors, community, and the environment.
- Performing Preventative Maintenance as directed, and logging performance into Computerized Maintenance Management System (Maximo).
- Maintaining strong relationships with all crews and departments.
- Operating heavy equipment such as a manlift and forklift as required.
- Performing general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the appearance of the facility as directed.
- Providing on-the-job skills training to others in complex technical areas as required.
What you will bring to the role:
- Completed High School Diploma required.
- Interest in technical, mechanical, or industrial work, technical training is an asset
- Interest in learning how power plant operations work; previous operator experience is an asset but not required.
- Willingness to learn how control rooms function in combined‑cycle plants; any related exposure is helpful.
- Basic understanding of water systems is an asset, with openness to learning water testing, treatment processes, and safe chemical handling.
- Willingness to learn about turbines, steam generation, plant safety practices, and how to monitor equipment conditions.
- Interest in learning how to read piping diagrams and understand basic process controls.
- General interest in the power generation industry and motivation to build foundational knowledge over time.
- Solid ability to solve equipment, systems, and safety issues.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn how to operate and maintain gas power plant equipment.
- Able to identify equipment issues and support with troubleshooting operating problems in the gas power plant.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and help foster a positive team environment.
- Heavy industrial facility designated as a safety-sensitive location.
- Physical mobility, including lifting and climbing, and ability to use PPE required.
- Working Outside.
Hours of Work: 12 hours rotating shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug test is required, subject to applicable law.
Clearance of a pre-employment medical will also be required.
