-Analyzes engineering sketches, specifications, and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape, and arrangement of parts.
- Sketches rough layout of machine and computes angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, clearances, tolerances, leverages, and location of holes.
- Consults with customers on an ongoing basis to establish exact technical requirements and discuss any product modifications.
- Evaluates design ideas based on factors such as appealing appearance, design function relationships, serviceability, materials and methods engineering, application, budget, price, production costs, methods of production, market characteristics, and client specifications.
- Performs required engineering calculations such as strength of materials, size of materials, and static and dynamic loads.
- Operates computer aided design and drafting software (Autocad and Inventor)
- Develops and prepares general arrangement drawings as well as detailed sub assembly drawings.
- Checks dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure of project.
- Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials, and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
- Designs pneumatic and hydraulic systems required by the department’s products. - Reviews load calculations performed by the designers.

- Conducts equipment inspections at mine sites and within plant for the purpose of load rating certification. - Makes any adjustments or changes necessary or desired.
- Generates hard copies of all drawings and issues complete drawing sets for fabrication and ISO 9001 program.
- Makes blueprints or copies of drawings as required.
- Solves problems encountered during production inspections and initiates corrective actions.
- Documents all information and procedures related to a specific product for future reference.
- Generates reports and correspondence of various kinds including faxes, memos, inspection reports, bill of materials, etc.
- Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to establish priorities and schedules, execute design projects, and improve engineering efficiency.
- Visits mine sites to provide customer service in the area of customer solutions, technical support, design modifications, and certification of products (drop and free-fall tests).
