Position Summary
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer / Mechanical Engineering Technologist supports the design, development, and continuous improvement of Upstream Data’s product lines. This role focuses on mechanical design, documentation, and production support, with opportunities to take ownership of product development initiatives and contribute to proprietary equipment design.
The successful candidate will work closely with manufacturing, supply chain, and cross-functional teams to ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and aligned with business objectives.
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
- Experience or exposure to mechanical design in a manufacturing environment is a strong asset
- Experience with upstream oil and gas facility design or natural gas power generation systems is a strong asset
- Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD preferred
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Valid driver’s licence with reliable transportation and ability to provide a clean driver’s abstract
Product Design & Development
- Lead and support mechanical design activities for new and existing product lines from concept through production release
- Own mechanical design aspects of assigned product development initiatives
- Translate functional and operational requirements into robust, manufacturable mechanical designs
- Develop 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent software
- Collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure designs are cost-effective, scalable, and manufacturable
- Support prototype builds, testing, and validation, incorporating feedback into design iterations
- Assist with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) initiatives
- Provide engineering support to production, including troubleshooting and continuous improvement efforts
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, and revision control
- Support adherence to engineering standards, best practices, and quality requirements
- Participate in engineering change processes and product lifecycle management activities
- Work closely with engineering, operations, procurement, and leadership teams to align designs with operational and business needs
- Clearly communicate design intent, changes, and technical considerations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Identify opportunities to improve existing designs for performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability
- Stay current with relevant materials, manufacturing methods, and design tools to support ongoing innovation
- On-site role within an active manufacturing environment
- Regular interaction with production and operations personnel and movement throughout the shop floor
- Must be comfortable working near manufacturing equipment and following all safety and PPE requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required

This position may be based in Lloydminster, AB or Calgary, AB.
