The Line-Haul Driver demonstrates excellent problem solving and customer service skills to ensure linehaul is fully operational. This position supervises all activities of linehaul, including developing and executing linehaul plans, calling and assigning drivers, overseeing arriving and departing drivers, as well as supporting drivers. This position is critical to the success of Vitus' operations on the Alaska road system. The Line-Haul Driver is a crucial member of the Vitus leadership team to foster trust, respect, collaboration, and team decision making.
- - Plan, supervise, and utilize available drivers, loads, and equipment resources.
- Develop, maintain, and execute appropriate linehaul plans.
- Provide direct supervision of drivers.
- Actively cover driver routes as needed
- Coordinate work assignments, monitor performance, and contact drivers for assignment.
- Ensure drivers arrive and depart as assigned.
- Update data to ensure accurate load and driver statuses.
- Provide training, performance feedback, and disciplinary actions, as needed.
- Provide a clean and safe working environment for all personnel, visiting drivers, and customers.
- Ensure compliance with applicable DOT, OSHA, and other related requirements.
- Closely works with Terminal Managers and Retail Operations Manager to ensure alignment in meeting daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly business objectives.
- Provide instruction, analyses, suggestions and ideas for the improvement of operations within the shift, department, and facility.
- Provides training and feedback to employees on a continual basis regarding RPM, over speed, and idle scores.
- Conducts daily inspections to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, as well as OSHA and DOT compliance.
- Conducts monthly safety meetings.
- Strives for continuous improvement in all areas of service center operations.
- Speaks with drivers, evaluating their needs and maintaining successful relationships.
- Makes quick and informed decisions based on the volume levels and communicates schedule to affected employees.
- Comprehends and ensures compliance with company and government regulations.
- Works assigned shift(s) as needed. Must be available to work depending upon customer pickup and delivery schedules.
- - High School Diploma or General Educational Degree (GED), or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Prior management, dispatch, and dock experience required, preferably in the fuel trucking industry.
- Thorough understanding of the fuel trucking industry. Basic paperwork flow preferred.
- Must be knowledgeable of Alaska area, including Parks and Glenn Highway.
- Must have CDL-A with HAZMAT and Tanker endorsements, as well as medical card to back up driver as needed.
- Must have strong leadership skills including the ability to hire, coach, counsel, train, mentor and terminate employees.

- Must be willing to work 40 hours per week with additional hours as needed.
