Finisher

Job Summary for Finisher:

Establishes final dimensions and surface finishes for manufactured parts by setting up and operating manual and automated finishing equipment. Applies metal finishing expertise and machine tool skills to produce parts that meet precise specifications with a high level of accuracy and precision.

Compensation commensurate with experience.

Education and/or Experience of Finisher:

- High school diploma or GED preferred. Training is primarily provided on the job, with supplemental internal or external coursework as needed. Apprenticeship programs, vocational training, or coursework from community or technical colleges are a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Finisher:

- Use precision measuring tools and instruments to inspect and test completed units, ensuring conformance to specifications and detecting defects.

- Read and follow blueprints, job layouts, and specifications to accurately perform assigned tasks.

- Operate and set up belt sanders, milling machines, timesaver machines, hand and power shears, and stenciling equipment as required by production needs.

- Learn and apply proper sanding belt types and grits (e.g., 60, 80, 120) for different metals to achieve desired finishes.

- Calculate dimensions, tolerances, and measurements for cuts, bores, and other machining operations.

- Perform finishing operations and tasks in accordance with production schedules and quality standards.

Qualifications of Finisher:

- Mechanically inclined with the ability to work independently.

- Proficient in operating manual and automated machine shop tools.

- Ability to monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to ensure proper machine operation.

- Working knowledge of diverse materials and basic principles of metallurgy.

- Familiarity with quality control tools and gauges for inspecting work.

- Strong manual dexterity and precision in handling and assembling parts.
