The Metal Finisher is responsible for finishing welded and fabricated metal components to meet customer specifications and quality standards in a contract manufacturing environment. This role includes grinding, sanding, deburring, polishing, and surface preparation of carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum parts. The ideal candidate understands weld shop operations and takes pride in producing clean, cosmetically acceptable, and dimensionally accurate finished products.
- Grind, sand, and blend welds to meet cosmetic and structural requirements
- Remove slag, spatter, sharp edges, and burrs from fabricated components
- Polish stainless steel and aluminum to specified finishes (e.g., #4, mirror, brushed)
- Prepare parts for painting, powder coating, plating, or other finishing processes
- Inspect parts for defects and ensure compliance with customer drawings and specifications
- Operate finishing tools such as:
- Angle grinders
- Die grinders
- Belt sanders
- Orbital sanders
- Deburring tools
- Scotch-Brite and polishing equipment
- Read and interpret blueprints and work orders
- Maintain dimensional tolerances during finishing
- Perform rework as directed by Quality or Production leadership
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow all shop safety policies and PPE requirements
- Assist welders and fabricators as needed to maintain production flow
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- 1+ year experience in metal fabrication or weld shop finishing preferred- Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
- Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings
- Familiarity with common weld types (MIG, TIG, Stick)
- Ability to use measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, squares)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods
- Strong attention to detail and quality
- Experience in a contract manufacturing environment
- Understanding of cosmetic finishing standards
- Knowledge of surface finish callouts and grain direction requirements
- Experience prepping parts for powder coat or paint
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the facility for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40–50 lbs. with or without assistance
- Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of metal parts and hardware
