Director of Origination

Kanin Energy is seeking a Director of Origination to support the growth of our power development and decarbonization platform. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the ideal candidate is a highly motivated and experienced professional that has led the full life cycle of power project development and successfully executed transactions. The ideal candidate also has strong quantitative skills, intellectual curiosity and demonstrated leadership experience.

Key Responsibilities

Project Identification & Development

- Identify, evaluate and lead development activities for power project opportunities including waste heat to power, combined heat and power, and simple-cycle power, while working closely with industrial partners

- Apply comprehensive market knowledge of power and environmental markets to assess and prioritize opportunities

- Stay current on State/Provincial and Federal regulations relevant to our projects, ensuring compliance and identifying new market opportunities

- Collaborate with electric power utilities on interconnection and offtake opportunities

Partnership Development

- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with industrial clients, utilities, and other stakeholders to drive project success

Financial Assessment

- Develop and analyze financial models to evaluate project feasibility, considering factors such as power and environmental attribute pricing, financing, incentives, capital costs and operational expenses

Deal Structuring and Contract Negotiation

- Lead negotiations for key commercial agreements, including Term Sheets, MOUs, PPAs, Waste Heat Agreements, and other project contracts

Team Leadership:

- Work cross-functionally with engineering, project delivery, and commercial teams to advance projects from concept to completion

- Provide clear direction, guidance, and foster a collaborative, results-oriented work environment

Qualifications

- University degree in relevant field

- 10+ years of experience in a similar role within the energy or adjacent industry

- Entrepreneurial, self-starter attitude and comfort working in a fast-paced, start-up environment

- Proven track record of closing energy deals and managing customer relationships

- Exceptional communication and negotiation skills

- Highly collaborative team player

- First-principles thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
