Accounting Clerk Hartselle Utilities – Hartselle, AL
Hartselle Utilities (HU) is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to support the daily operations of our Finance & Support Services Department. Position Overview
The Accounting Clerk reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and performs essential accounting functions, including payroll processing, accounts payable, and financial recordkeeping. This position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial data and supporting efficient departmental operations. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and able to manage multiple responsibilities with a high level of accuracy.
Essential Responsibilities
Process weekly payroll accurately and in compliance with applicable policies and regulations
Perform accounts payable functions, including invoice processing, coding, and timely payment of obligations
Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation
Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including reconciliations and reporting support
Provide administrative and operational support to the Finance & Support Services Department
Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting
Support audit preparation and respond to information requests as needed
Ensure compliance with HU policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s degree in accounting, business, or a related field
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or payroll processing
Working knowledge of accounts payable and payroll systems
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Preferred: Experience in public utility accounting
Preferred: Experience with municipal or government accounting practicesEquivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Additional Requirements
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
Ability to attend training, meetings, and continuing education as needed
Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and participation in random drug screenings
What We Offer
Salary Range: $55,000 – $75,000 annually, depending on experience (DOE)
