GRU’s Water/Wastewater Engineering Department is looking for an Engineering Intern to work in the Environmental or Civil Groups of the department. The ideal intern will have a background in Environmental and/or Civil Engineering and have flexibility and willingness to tackle any assignment, even if it means getting dirty and/or wet.

To be considered for this paid internship, candidate must meet the following requirements:
• A student currently working towards an A.A. or bachelor’s degree in either Environmental or Civil Engineering and possessing at least a 3.0 GPA.
• Student must be able to work a minimum of 15 hours per week. Preferably 20 hours a week in (4-8 hour) blocks of time.
• Student must be available to work at least a minimum of two consecutive semesters and potentially summers. Minimum of one (1) year is preferred.
• Previous experience as an intern or in a co-op program in the Environmental or Civil Engineering field.
• GIS software (Esri ArcGIS desired) and knowledge of GIS theory and principals
Summary of the roles and responsibilities of an Engineering Intern:
• Assist staff with environmental regulatory projects and routine tasks consisting of water quality and water conservation efforts including technical writing for reporting.
• Assist staff with new development efforts consisting of hydraulic water modeling, hydrant fire flows and design drawing review/scanning
• Assist staff with civil and/or environmental design projects such as treatment plant infrastructure design, lift station design, treatment wetlands and linear infrastructure improvement projects
• Assist staff with field data collection efforts such as wetland sampling, water quality sampling and GIS mapping
• Assist staff with data analysis efforts involving extensive use of GIS data, Cityworks and Excel data
• Assist staff with local engineering outreach and organization efforts such as AWWA and ASCE.
