About This Job

About Us

BerQ RNG builds and develops renewable natural gas projects in addition to buying and selling renewable natural gas. BerQ RNG is structured to contribute positively to the environment by using biogas that is currently flared into the atmosphere. Throughout North America, thousands of locations are flaring biogas because it is not pure enough or economical enough to use. We consider this a waste of resources and aim to eliminate this practice in North America. We have developed a business model that can use these resources economically and, as such, can earn money for our investors while cleaning up the environment. For more information on BerQ RNG, please visit our website at www.berqrng.com.

Job Description

BerQ RNG is seeking a Vice President, Project Development, who will be responsible for ensuring project success across key technical and financial metrics, including performance measured by internal rates of return. The successful candidate will lead a collaborative and entrepreneurial development team and oversee all aspects of the project development lifecycle, from securing feedstock agreements through to the commencement of commercial operations at RNG facilities.

This role includes establishing, maintaining, and optimizing departmental development processes; supporting project developers in making critical decisions; ensuring project schedules remain on track; managing budgets; and guiding key commercial and technical decisions throughout the development process. The ideal candidate will bring an “investment mindset” aligned with BerQ’s development philosophy.

The Vice President will work cross-functionally to support the diligence and evaluation of prospective development opportunities, including anaerobic digester and landfill methane projects. Strong internal communication and coordination will be essential.

We are seeking a dynamic professional with a positive attitude, excellent interpersonal and analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable working independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities:

- Manage a team of project developers.

- Coach project developers to show ownership of project IRRs for all projects in development/execution.

- Fine-tune development procedures, standards and practices within BerQ RNG.

- Keep budgets and schedules on track for all development projects.

- Maximize IRRs for all projects.

- Conduct quality reviews of all project materials prepared by project developers, applying an investment-focused perspective.

- Approve evaluated (executed by project developers) prospective project host sites, site analysis, and proposed solutions to achieve an efficient configuration for systems to produce biogas and upgraded RNG.

- Approve existing processes and waste management practices to quantify emissions and carbon intensities.

- Establish departmental standards for identifying technical requirements and conducting engineering analyses to assess and characterize feedstocks, including calculating energy and mass balances for biogas production and upgrading raw gas to pipeline-quality RNG.

- Review and approve all regulatory requirements and permits, and oversee the preparation of initial assessments by project developers.

- Approve initial project cost estimates, including site development, process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and pipeline interconnection costs.

- Review and approve engineering and cost-benefit analysis reports and presentations, and communicate key insights to C-level management.

- Instruct and oversee project developers in pursuing incentive and grant applications to secure incremental funding for the overall project capital stack.

- Coordinate with construction and operations departments to ensure effective alignment and execution across project development, construction, and operational activities.

- Analyze project performance metrics and identify opportunities for improvement, providing actionable recommendations.

- Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

- Minimum of 10 years of experience in energy project development in a similar role.

- Bachelor’s degree in either mechanical, chemical, petroleum, civil, environmental, energy or agricultural engineering.

- Experience in anaerobic digestion project development is required, with preference given to candidates who also have experience in landfill gas development.

- Demonstrated experience managing a team of professionals responsible for developing energy project financial models, feasibility studies, and cost analyses.

- Demonstrated understanding of biogas and RNG markets and regulatory environments, with mandatory experience in environmental credits and carbon intensity.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with demonstrated ability to prepare clear, visually and verbally engaging reports and presentations for senior management and collaborating teams.

- Strong analytical modeling, and technical skills.

- Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills, with experience drafting clear, comprehensive, and easy-to-understand analysis reports for C-level management and boards to support effective decision-making.

- Ability to communicate, interact positively and effectively in a team environment.

- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, and remain composed under uncertainty and tight schedule constraints.

- Willingness to travel to project sites up to 25% of the time.

In addition to a collaborative and supportive work environment, BerQ RNG offers:

- Competitive salary.

- Annual performance incentive bonus opportunity.

- Relocation allowance.

- Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage for you and your family.

- 401K with company match.

- Paid time off and holidays.

- A culture that values teamwork, collaboration, and opportunity for growth and development.
