Position Summary:
Assists the Supervisor to coordinate the maintenance, installation, and construction of traffic signals associated equipment. This includes new installations and upgrades to existing traffic signals and streetlights, and the maintenance of existing systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist with coordinating the installation, construction and maintenance of traffic signal systems and streetlight systems.
2. Test and repair faulty or damaged traffic and streetlight electrical equipment.
3. Liaise, consult and coordinate with other departments, external agencies and City staff regarding pending work and capital project activities.
4. Issue work orders for field repairs.
5. Operate necessary equipment and vehicles.
6. Coordinate and submit utility locate requests for traffic and streetlight work.
7. Facilitate safety talks, daily job planning, and tailboard conferences.
8. Develop and document traffic control plans to enable the construction and maintenance of traffic signal systems.
9. Respond to public safety concerns regarding traffic signal and streetlight infrastructure.
10. Support the development of Standard Operating Procedures
11. Identify, mitigate and report hazards and solutions to the appropriate Manager/Supervisor.
12. Ensure work is completed in compliance with safety policies, procedures, regulations while maintaining a safe working environment.
13. Encourage others to identify health and safety hazards and solutions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. Advanced knowledge of NEMA Municipal Standards
2. Advanced knowledge of the Work Protection Code
3. Advanced knowledge of Book-7 Traffic Control Guidelines
4. Advanced knowledge of OPSD and OPSS drawings to properly construct traffic and streetlight infrastructure
5. Advanced ability to operate aerial devices and cranes
6. Advanced ability to navigate and update GIS software
7. Advanced problem solving and troubleshooting skills
8. Advanced knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
Qualifications:
1. IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association) training Level (II)
2. Valid 309A electrical license for Ontario
3. Valid Class ‘DZ’ driver’s license for Ontario
4. Utility Work Protection Code (WPC)
5. Radial Boom Derrick (RBD) Certification
6. Mobile Crane Operator (0-8 ton) certificate
7. Hydraulic Aerial Equipment training
8. First Aid/CPR certification
