The Cutting Tool Designer is responsible for initiating and completing the concept design phase for special form tools, complex Indexable cutting tools, and inserts. This includes producing detailed drawings and defining production routings for tooling used across various industries. The role involves close collaboration with Sales, Production, and Customers to ensure tooling is designed and delivered accurately and on schedule.
- Design and Quote custom form tools, Inserts and CBN, PCD, SCD and Indexable cutting tools.
- Collect data by interfacing with customers and sales reps to help make a selection of tool types.
- Gather manufacturing and engineering data to effectively evaluate production feasibility of the customer request and provide accurate quotations to the customer.
- Communicate with customers about quotations, applications and design engineering.
- Assist inside sales with order processing, phone calls, and mail during times of excessive load.
- Request material quotes for materials when needed.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering is preferred.
- The ability to read blueprints is required.
- Knowledge of cutting tool series application understanding.
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of spatial awareness and ability to conceptualize complex geometry.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds at a time.
