This is a full-time remote role for a Distribution System Design Engineer. Responsibilities include designing and developing distribution systems aligned with industry standards and client requirements. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, analyze project specifications, create engineering designs, and ensure the safe and efficient integration of systems. The role also involves assessing compliance with regulatory and safety guidelines and providing technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare designs for
overhead and underground distribution
projects following PPL utility standards.
- Develop construction-ready design packages including:
- Work prints and staking sheets
- Pole replacements, relocations, extensions
- Service upgrades, new customer connections
- Underground cable routing and equipment placement
- Perform pole loading analysis using IKE Poleforeman.
- Apply NESC, utility safety codes, and PPL design guidelines.- 5+ years of experience in
distribution design
for electric utilities.
- Required:
Prior project experience with
PPL utility standards or processes
.
- Strong knowledge of distribution design principles (OH/UG systems).
- Experience with utility design software (GIS tools, IKE PoleForeman, AutoCAD, MicroStation or similar).
- Familiarity with NESC requirements and general utility construction practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred but not mandatory if experience is strong).
- Prepare drawings, cost estimates, BOMs, and construction notes according to PPL templates.
- Maintain accurate records within PPL’s systems (GIS, IKE Poleforeman models and reports, AutoCAD, MicroStation or similar).
- Ensure all documentation meets PPL QA standards.
