The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting a Summer Student to join the talented team at the Alberta Geological Survey (AGS). As a Student, Quaternary Geology, you will provide both field and office support for the Southern Alberta Groundwater Evaluation (SAGE) project. In this project, the AGS is collaborating with the Government of Alberta to conduct hydrogeological characterization, geological mapping and modeling of Neogene–Quaternary sediments and Cretaceous bedrock, and regional electromagnetic geophysical surveys to improve understanding of groundwater availability and connected surface water resources.

- Provide field assistance to AGS geologists conducting surficial geology and landscape mapping.
- Perform geomorphic interpretations using a range of imagery resources and field data to develop surficial geology maps for regions of Alberta in a GIS environment.
- Assist AGS staff with updating and verifying Quaternary databases as part of the ongoing review of legacy data.
- Assist in collecting data used for subsurface and hydrogeological characterization of Alberta geology.
- Compile, organize, and manage select groundwater data from various sources to support AGS staff.
- Currently enrolled in the second year or higher of a Bachelor’s degree program in Earth Science, Geology, or a related field.
- Proficient in GIS software, with solid computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Completion of an introductory hydrogeology course is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Self-motivated with the capacity to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- Proof of enrollment in a registered post-secondary institution including enrollment in the semester following the work term, or enrollment in a registered co-op program will be a condition of hire.
