Structural Steel Quality Inspector (Weld / Paint / Processing)
Are you a detail-driven inspector who knows structural steel and takes pride in catching issues before they become problems? Whether your strength is weld inspection, industrial paint inspection, first-step beam processing, or a mix of all three, we want to talk to you.
We’re looking for a Quality Inspector to support our structural steel fabrication operation by inspecting materials, processes, and finished products to ensure everything meets customer specifications and internal quality standards.
AWS CWI certification is a plus—but not required. We’re open to qualified inspectors with strong hands-on experience.
- Perform random inspections of structural steel products throughout fabrication and processing
- Inspect structural welds, fit-up, and/or industrial paint systems per job specs and procedures
- Verify first-step processing of structural beams (cutting, drilling, layout, initial fabrication)
- Identify non-conforming material, issue NCRs, and red-tag product when required
- Maintain inspection records using quality software and handheld devices
- Support weld mapping, traceability, and error-proofing prior to shipment
- Perform offsite inspections as needed
- Work closely with fabrication, painting, and production teams to resolve quality issues
- Experience inspecting structural steel fabrication, including one or more of the following:
- Welds (visual inspection, fit-up, weld size, discontinuities)
- Industrial coatings (epoxy, zinc-rich primers, mil thickness)
- First-step beam processing (cutting, drilling, layout verification)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and job specifications
- Familiarity with AWS D1.1 and/or customer-specific specifications
- Experience documenting inspections, NCRs, and corrective actions
- Strong attention to detail with the confidence to stop work when needed
- Clear communication and a team-first mindset
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- NDE certifications (MT, UT, PT, RT)
- Coating or paint inspection certifications (AMPP / SSPC)
- Issues are caught early—before rework or shipment
- Welds, coatings, and processing steps meet spec the first time
- Documentation is accurate, timely, and audit-ready
- Quality standards are upheld without slowing production unnecessarily
- Work in a true structural steel environment—not generic QC
- Be respected as the voice of quality on the floor
- Support a team that values safety, accountability, and craftsmanship
- Opportunity to grow into advanced inspection or certification paths
If you’re an inspector who understands steel, welds, coatings, and quality systems—and you’re not afraid to protect the standard—we’d like to hear from you.
