Job Summary
The Senior Accountant Regulatory is responsible for preparing, analyzing, and submitting regulatory financial reports required by federal, state, and local agencies governing the oil and gas industry. This role ensures compliance with complex reporting standards, supports audits, and partners with internal teams to maintain accurate and timely regulatory filings. The ideal candidate has strong industry knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and experience navigating regulatory frameworks such as FERC, state commissions, and other energy-related oversight bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory reports
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, financial disclosure rules, and industry standards.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes that impact reporting obligations, advising leadership as needed.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation supporting all filings.
- Perform detailed reconciliations of accounts related to regulatory requirements.
- Analyze variances in financial data and provide clear explanations to management.
- Support the month-end close process, including accruals, journal entries, and regulatory-related adjustments.
- Assist in developing and maintaining internal controls specific to regulatory accounting.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation and acting as the primary point of contact for regulatory topics.
- Ensure SOX compliance where applicable through proper documentation and control execution.
- Partner with operations, revenue accounting, land, compliance, and finance teams to collect data required for regulatory filings.
- Provide guidance and training to junior accountants and internal stakeholders regarding regulatory processes.
