Safety decisions made locally have company‑wide consequences, especially in our Western Region, where regulatory expectations are higher and operating conditions vary widely. This role ensures that employees, customers, and communities across our regional locations are protected every day. You’ll be the person who turns safety standards into real‑world habits that prevent injuries, incidents, and disruptions before they happen.
As Safety Manager for the Region, you’ll be the on‑the‑ground leader ensuring safety programs are consistently executed across your region. Within your first 90 days, success looks like stronger site‑level ownership of safety, clearer visibility into risks, and practical behavior‑based improvements that reduce incidents, near misses, and claims.
- Serve as the primary safety leader for all regional locations, partnering closely with Regional VP's, General Managers, and field teams
- Identify, track, and reduce at‑risk behaviors that contribute to injuries, incidents, and property damage
- Ensure safety practices, procedures, audits, and measurements are consistently applied across the region
- Conduct regular site visits and audits, translating findings into clear corrective actions that actually get done
- Support managers in reviewing operational and safety reports (including out‑of‑gas and incident data) and implementing prevention strategies
- Deliver and coordinate safety and compliance training for field personnel, including required certifications and refreshers
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, with particular attention to requirements (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, DOT, state agencies)
- Assist with incident investigations, root cause analysis, and follow‑up actions
- Partner with corporate safety, risk, and insurance teams to support claims management and loss control initiatives
- Review new or modified facilities, equipment, and systems to ensure safety and regulatory readiness
What You’ll Do in Your First 30 Days
- Visit key locations to observe operations, meet frontline teams, and understand site‑specific risks
- Review recent incidents, near misses, audit results, and claims affecting the region
- Assess current training completion and identify immediate compliance or skills gaps
- Establish trusted working relationships with General Managers and regional leadership
- Support prompt and accurate reporting of workers’ compensation, auto, and liability incidents
- Partner with managers to ensure claims are documented, followed, and closed properly
- Participate in return‑to‑work efforts and corrective actions tied to claims trends
- Safety leadership experience in a multi‑site or regional operation
- Working knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EPA, and fuel or industrial safety standards
- Proven ability to conduct site audits, training, and incident investigations
- Ability to travel regularly throughout the West Coast region
- Strong credibility with frontline employees and operational leaders
- Experience in fuels, refined products, energy, or similar regulated industries
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Familiarity with West Coast specific regulatory environments (e.g., California OSHA/EPA)
- Experience supporting claims, loss control efforts, or insurance coordination
- Background in technical or field‑based training
We believe safety works best when it’s practical, visible, and built on trust and not paperwork alone. Leaders here are expected to be present, listen first, and help teams solve real problems in real environments.
