Safety Manager

Overview

Location: Martinsburg, WV

Pay is dependent upon experience and will be discussed during the consideration process.

The Safety Manager oversees the development of the team and the implementation of health and safety plans. Key responsibilities include enforcing policies, evaluating practices for legal compliance, conducting training sessions, investigating incidents, and executing the corporate safety strategy. Effective communication is vital within the organization, and the Safety Manager collaborates with Manufacturing, Logistics, and Quality teams to create practical and sustainable solutions. This role also promotes community relations, supports sustainable operations, and ensures adherence to company policies and regulations.

Role & Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

- Plans, implements, and manages comprehensive safety and health programs in line with plant rules and company policies. Conducts audits, inspections, and safety meetings to ensure compliance and identify corrective actions. Collaborate with management during audits to ensure a safe work environment and prepares notices for hazard abatement.

- Communicate effectively and mentor teammates on safety practices. Serves as the primary contact for injury notifications, investigations, and case management, providing first aid and coordinating medical treatment as needed. Records all incident reports in the Safety Management System (SMS) and manages workers' compensation claims.

- Maintains logs of safety inspections and complies with Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations. Develops and updates emergency response plans and coordinates safety management for contractors. Participates in Joint Safety and Health Committees and analyzes safety data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Promotes safe work performance through recognition systems.

- Technical knowledge includes safety principles, regulatory compliance, and relevant certifications (First Aid, CPR, DOT, OSHA, MSHA). Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong data entry skills.

Area of experience:

- 5+ years demonstrated progressive experience in safety management roles (cement experience strongly preferred).

Education:

- Bachelor's degree in health & safety management or a closely related field.
