What We're Looking For:

The Quality Supervisor is responsible for supervising daily quality control activities within the manufacturing plant to ensure all products meet Smardt’s standards for quality, reliability, and customer requirements.


This role is a hands-on leadership position, requiring regular presence on the manufacturing floor to support inspections, troubleshoot quality issues, and guide production teams in maintaining high-quality standards. The Quality Supervisor ensures compliance with quality procedures, leads investigations into nonconformities, and supports continuous improvement initiatives within the HVAC manufacturing environment.


This position requires strong technical expertise in HVAC manufacturing processes, attention to detail, and the ability to guide teams in resolving quality issues efficiently and effectively.

This hire will be required to travel to Montreal, Canada for approximately 4 weeks of training, provided by Smardt.


What You'll Do:


Quality Operations Oversight

- Supervise day-to-day activities of the quality inspection team, including incoming, in-process, and final inspections.

- Ensure products meet Smardt quality standards, engineering specifications, and customer requirements.

- Monitor compliance with plant quality procedures and ensure adherence to documented processes.

- Review inspection reports and ensure accurate completion of quality documentation.

- Support production teams in identifying quality risks and implementing corrective actions.


Inspection and Manufacturing Process Control

- Oversee inspection activities related to HVAC equipment manufacturing, including assembly, vacuum processes, brazing, welding, leak testing, and system verification.

- Verify product conformity using visual inspection, measurement tools, and test equipment.

- Ensure appropriate inspection procedures are followed for incoming materials, assemblies, and finished products.

- Support troubleshooting of quality issues on the manufacturing floor.


Non-Conformance and Root Cause Analysis

- Investigate non-conforming products and process deviations.

- Lead root cause analysis activities using structured problem-solving methods such as 5 Why, Ishikawa, or 8D.

- Coordinate containment actions and corrective measures with production, engineering, and supply chain teams.

- Track corrective actions to ensure timely and effective resolution.


Quality Systems and Compliance

- Support the maintenance of the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensure compliance with internal procedures and applicable industry standards.

- Assist with internal and external audits, including ISO quality audits and customer inspections.

- Ensure quality records and inspection documentation are properly maintained and traceable.


Leadership

- Provide guidance, training, and technical support to quality inspectors and technicians.

- Monitor performance of the quality team and ensure inspection activities are completed efficiently.

- Promote a strong culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement within the manufacturing team.


Continuous Improvement

- Identify recurring quality issues and support improvement initiatives to reduce defects and improve process reliability.

- Work with engineering and production teams to improve manufacturing processes and product quality.

- Participate in new product introduction (NPI) activities to ensure quality standards are built into new designs and production processes.


Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Work closely with production supervisors, manufacturing engineers, and supply chain teams to resolve quality concerns.

- Support communication between manufacturing, engineering, and service teams regarding product quality performance.

- Assist in evaluating supplier quality performance and addressing supplier-related non-conformances.



What You'll Bring:

- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in quality control or quality assurance within HVAC or mechanical equipment manufacturing.

- Experience supervising or leading quality inspection teams in a manufacturing environment

- Strong experience with manufacturing process quality control.

- Direct experience in HVAC manufacturing is strongly preferred (i.e.: vacuum systems, brazing, welding, leak testing, mechanical assembly, pressure testing). Candidates with experience in industrial refrigeration, mechanical equipment manufacturing, data center cooling systems, semiconductor equipment, or similar complex mechanical manufacturing environments will also be considered.

- Experience supporting ISO-based quality systems is an asset.

- Experience with supplier quality and incoming inspection is an asset.

- Experience supporting new product introduction (NPI) is an asset.


Education:

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field


OR

- Technical diploma with significant relevant manufacturing quality experience


Required Skills:

- Strong understanding of HVAC manufacturing and testing processes

- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications

- Knowledge of quality inspection tools and measurement equipment

- Experience conducting root cause analysis and corrective actions

- Experience using inspection and measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, pressure gauges, and leak detection equipment.

- Familiarity with dimensional inspection and verification of mechanical assemblies.

- Experience working with ERP, MES, or Quality Management Systems (QMS) for documentation, NCR tracking, and inspection reporting.

- Ability to maintain digital quality records and traceability documentation.

- Knowledge of quality management systems and audit processes

- Strong organizational and leadership skills

- Effective communication and collaboration skills in a plant environment

- Proficiency with MS Office and quality documentation systems

- Perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm motions along with push, pull, grab, pinch and lift arms above the head.

- Maintain balance and coordination while working on uneven surfaces.

- Work in confined or restricted spaces when required.

- Tolerate exposure to varying environmental conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, dust, noise, and outdoor weather conditions.

- Maintain sufficient visual acuity to identify hazards, read in English or Spanish labels, and operate equipment safely.

- Maintain sufficient hearing ability to receive verbal instructions and respond to safety warnings.

- Perform physically demanding tasks for sustained periods consistent with assigned duties.
