To act as a PMO-embedded Project Manager responsible for governance, planning discipline and delivery assurance across Expro’s R&D and technology development portfolio.
The role ensures that projects are structured correctly, decisions are taken at the right level and at the right time, risks are visible and owned, and delivery teams are enabled to execute efficiently within Expro’s Stage-Gate governance framework.
Key Activities And Accountabilities
- Apply and assure compliance with Expro’s Stage-Gate project governance model, including Gate preparation, readiness assessment, and decision tracking.
- Ensure projects are scoped, categorised, and governed in line with risk-based governance tiers.
- Act as a single point contact between Engineering, Product Lines, Operations, and Finance for assigned projects.
- Support Engineering and Product teams in developing robust project plans, including scope definition, milestones, dependencies, and critical path.
- Monitor project schedules, cost forecasts, and resource assumptions within PMO tools and reporting systems and adapt project plans accordingly as development progresses.
- Track and report schedule, cost, risk, and delivery confidence at project and portfolio level.
- Facilitate proactive identification and mitigationof technical, commercial, operational, and delivery risks.
- Ensure risks and issues are clearly owned by the appropriate function (Engineering, PL, Ops) and escalated where required.
- Structure decision points, trade-off discussions, and escalation paths to avoid late-stage surprises or stalled delivery.
- Support clear handover points between R&D, field trials, first deployment, and sustaining activities.
- Provide concise, decision-focused updates to senior stakeholders and governance forums.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of PMO processes, templates, and guidance.
- Coach delivery teams in good project discipline and best practiceswhile respecting functional ownership.
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Technology, or a related technical discipline.
- 5+ years experience supporting R&D, technology development, or engineering-led projects.- Strong understanding of Stage-Gate / lifecycle governance and risk-based decision making.
- Demonstrated ability to work across multi-disciplinary, globally distributed teams and experience in working in a matrix style organizational structure.
- Comfortable operating in a rapidly-changing Engineering Research and Development environment, supporting early-phase definition as well as late-stage delivery assurance.
- Strong facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Formal project management certification (e.g. APM, PMI, PRINCE2) is desirable but secondary to practical experience.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills, with the ability to structure complex, multi-disciplinary project information into clear plans and decision-ready documentation.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing and supply chain processes (e.g. procurement, machining, fabrication) and experience supporting projects involving the manufacture of physical prototypes or engineered products.
- Awareness of quality management systems and quality control processes, with experience ensuring that quality, compliance, and verification activities are appropriately planned, visible, and owned within project delivery teams.
